ADVANCED JAPANESE LANGUAGE: Students in this class must have already taken Japanese language and must be approved by the Japanese teacher. The class will move at a faster pace in speaking, listening, reading and writing. (Muschany)

SELECT CHORUS: Select chorus is a performance-oriented singing group. Students involved in this group will lead school liturgies, participate in performances at malls and other public venues. These students will also be involved in any school recordings. Singing is primarily done in 2-3 parts. Invitations have been issued for chorus. If any other students are interested, please see Mrs. Zimbra. (Zimbra)

BEGINNING JAPANESE: This class is for students in grades 5 and 6 who would like to begin their foreign language study now. Learn some of the language, some of the writing and some of the customs of our friends in Japan. (Hines)

BEGINNING SPANISH: Hola! Learn to speak the language of many people all over the world. Get ahead on your foreign language requirement. (Williams)

GAMES WE PLAY: Challenge your math and English skills to outwit your schoolmates! (DeMeo)

GEOGRAPHY CLUB: Join the Geography Club and “see” the world. We’ll be “traveling” to different countries through videos. Geography games, map activities and computer geography programs make learning easy and fun. Be a world traveler in the Geography Club! (Smith)

MATH SPECIALIZATION: Whether you need extra help or want more challenge, this class will allow you to work individually at your own level. (Kaneaiakala)

OFFICE AIDE

SPEECH CLUB: Do you like to perform? Speech class offers you the opportunity to put your dramatic talents to work. Perform for our assemblies and also participate in contests with other schools. Open to students with previous speech club experience. (Lee)

SPORTS SKILLS: Learn, review and practice basic fundamentals of various sports, such as volleyball and basketball. Also includes basic physical skills-catching, throwing, footwork, etc. (Hudgens)

STUDENT COUNCIL: Elected officers and class representatives will meet weekly to discuss and organize various student activities. Students do not sign up for this elective because they are voted into office.

COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD: Learn to name and locate all the countries of the world. Impress your friends and astound your parents with your global knowledge. Open to 6th graders only. (Smith)

DESIGN WITH COLOR: Explore the principles of color. Observe the dynamic possibilities of color by studying works of great artists. (A paint shirt is required) (DeMeo)

LIBRARY AIDE: Learn to shelve books and organize the library. Help the librarian with special projects. Read aloud to primary students. (Jeremiah)

LITURGICAL INSTRUMENTS: Students involved in the Liturgical Instruments elective will prepare the instrumental music for our school liturgies. The instruments include trumpet, clarinet, flute, violin, viola, cello, trombone, alto/tenor saxophone. (Percussion instruments will be rehearsed at a separate time in the schedule.) (Zimbra)

SCIENCE FAIR HELP

SCRAPBOOKING: It’s fun to create lasting memories, but it’s even better to display them in a new and exciting way. Students will learn some of the tricks to making a memorable scrapbook that they will treasure forever. FEE $10 for materials. (Cameron)

STUDY SKILLS: Sharpen your study skills by practicing notetaking, making an outline, listening well, and memorizing! (Kaneaiakala)

OFFICE AIDE: Mrs. Chee needs help each Tuesday to prepare SJV folders.

ANCIENT GAMES: Play games with the Pharaohs, Abraham of biblical days, kings of the Chinese dynasties, Viking warriors, Roman citizens, French loyalty and Japanese Samurai. (Smith)

BOARD GAMES AND CHESS CLUB: Learn to play or to improve your strategy by playing one of many exciting board games! (Cameron)

COMPUTER AMBASSADOR PROGRAM: Learn to “troubleshoot” and solve computer problems. (Lum)

PLASTIC CANVAS CRAFTS: Learn the basics of working with plastic canvas and make simple crafts. Must bring: yarn needle, plastic canvas, 4 ply yarn. (Sanchez)
